Description:
Safety is often perceived as a clinical responsibility, yet many patient safety failures stem from gaps in support, communication, or overlooked roles. Every department and staff member, from housekeeping to pharmacy, administration to nursing, forms a vital link in the healthcare safety chain. This course explores how all roles can actively contribute to preventing harm by understanding their place in the system and acting with reliability and purpose.
Educational Objectives:
- – Define the concept of the safety chain in healthcare systems.
- – Illustrate how harm occurs when links in the chain are weak or disconnected.
- – Recognize the safety impact of each healthcare role, regardless of function.
- – Improve collaboration between departments to close safety gaps.
- – Apply systems thinking to everyday interdepartmental processes.
- – Promote accountability and pride in non-clinical safety roles.
- – Build situational awareness across functional silos.
- – Develop shared safety goals across diverse teams.
